The Autonomous Physician Project is undergoing an update to reflect ongoing developments. Watch this space for upcoming information regarding progress and opportunities to participate.
What is the Autonomous Physician Project?
The Autonomous Physician Project is a large scale systems integration project leveraging modern patient identification, artificial intelligence and machine learning with on site/on demand execution of medial diagnosis and intervention. This is designed as a robust, independent system irregardless of disrupted, delayed or absent communication and resources, hence autonomous. This effort is particularly well suited to deep space, defense and emergency response missions as well as regions that are underserved or impacted by health care disparities. A modular design allows for optimized development and execution with reduced risk.
Despite aggressive attempts to create a model for uniform and universal coverage, timely medical diagnosis and patient care remains an elusive and expensive goal. This problem is compounded in remote locations or under disrupted conditions. Population growth, aging and improved mechanisms of coverage contribute to primary care visits increasing from 462 million in 2008 to 565 million by 2025. Disparity of access to care and emergency services amplify poor outcomes with increased morbidity and mortality. Delayed detection of disease and delayed response to urgent medical problems further increase the overall cost burden to our system. (3.2 trillion dollars 17.8% GDP 2015).
